Not excactly killing, making it different. Some battles are meningless beyond the point of destroying the enemy's shield. But most battles are pretty meaningless anyway.

Actually, I find shield good improvement in game, I just hate how they set it.
Negative side in my opinion (one of few): Countries should set them in battles they want, not that it automaticly starts. This way in a lot of wars they have no point.
Positive side in my opinion (one of few): On the other hand, I like how small countries have some chances against bigger ones (not Serbia or Poland ofc, they can destroy even 500 mil shield in one round if neccesarily) but if I take for example Slovenia-Italy.
No war between these two countries at the moment, because Italy is occupied - also don't take it wrong, Italy has more citizens but I'm currently talking about power and how regions are given at the moment.
Calculations say that Slovenia has 51 mil shield in each region (31 regions). Imagine Italy liberates one region (rules are, if country is occupied, shield starts working after one region is liberated). In next war - RW or direct war-if slovenia attacks first- they will have HUGE damage in advantage, since they have Q7 shield.
The outcome: this shield give a lot of advantage to smaller or powerless countries, which I like a lot. So in my honest opinion, shield is not killing the military module it just gives some more fun. I hope they think of it in the long term and implement such things in the future as well.

Military module went dead as soon as goldbuying became more emphasized over solid teamwork. The V1 module at least made it more about having a strong and coordinated team of fighters ready to respond at a moment's notice. This version? Whoever has the gold, will win. Once it became more about goldbeasts, all strategy went out the window.

I think the shield should replace the old defense systems. The way the shields were earned for the first time was through a tournament which I think is wrong.. it should be able to obtain the shield in some normal way, either by buying it or by some other kind of contribution while still having smaller countries in advantage.

It doesn't help a bit cause theirs no strategy in this game like in versions 2 or 1 , teamwork and strategy were replaced by stupid mechanics,pure STR & numbers.
