Anyway, my suggestion would be the following: The introduction of an eRep shortlink feature. It would be very useful especially for shouting purposes, e.g. campaigns and articles.

I experienced it myself and also saw it from other users, due to the harsh character limit, you either have to cut out many parts, add a comment after your shout or, well, use other shortlinks. But having an internal shortlink service would a) provide trustable links - you never know what's behind a shortened link when there is no preview feature and b)prevent the displayed warning which is quite annoying.

 

For example, for battles, we could have er.ep/battle/46577 instead of erepublik.com/en/military/battlefield/4657.

Concerning articles, we could have er.ep/article/2348240 instead of erepublik.com/en/article/-fbi-spendenaufruf-amp-statistiken-fundraiser-amp-statistics-2348240/1/20

 

Alternatively, a general shortlink with letters and numbers like er.ep/A7b0fX for.. whatever. Just as examples of course, I don't know if .ep would even be available as a domain.

Weighing in, discussing and the like is very welcome!

Hey!

Keep in mind, that short domains are really expensive, and all of them are rented. Also, you can use tinyurl.com instead - this tool has great preview feature, to be honest I use it so I can see the link before entering it, to make myself safier But I need to agree with you - such shortener would be useful, but it is not feature which can be implemented in an easy way(domain problems, the problem with urls which go to unsafe pages etc.)

First of all, thanks for answering! I see the problem with the domains, as said, I have no idea about that - but I don't understand the problem with unsafe pages. In the way I proposed it, it would basically be an eRep-internal shortlink service, thus the only pages you can link with it would be on eRep, be it articles, battles or whatever, so there would be no problem concerning the content of the linked pages. Actually this is one of the advantages, since when you saw such a link, you'd know that it links to a page on erep and nowhere else.

Hey!

If someone put some pornographic, or illegal(even in the matter of real law) links to it, it'd all go through our servers, and as we want to keep the game a friendly place for users, and we'd like our domain to remain one which is considered as safe one. That is, if you click any link which is from erepublik.com domain you can be sure, that nothing wrong will happen, and you will not see anything what is forbidden by eRepublik rules and law.

Why the hell you need to use domains. Just do not count characters in message if the link is from erep and case closed.

When user submits message, just shorten the link to something like 'battle link' inside of anchor tag and thats it, or don't, but the first part would be usefull and it takes only 3 mins to implement it

If you feel like it, write a ticket about it - as you can see, this topic is about shortlinks feature, not about changing the way characters are counted in messages.
