I must be misunderstanding this. Can someone please set me straight?

As I fight in wars I find I am using more bread than I can make a day (200). One option is to hire an employee to daily turn 200 raw material into 200 food. This costs me $30 (US) a day. Which turns out to be $0.15 per piece of bread. But on the markey I can buy the bread for $0.03 per piece of bread.

Shouldn't there be some sort of benefit to hiring an employee?!

It rarely pays to hire workers unless you can buy raw material at lower prices. Chech this page:

For food factory with Q<5/6 is not profitable to have workers - the math is simple: the product is cheaper than paying someone to work + the price of the raw.
