eRep could re-introduce Defense Systems using some ratio of WRM and FRM for manufacturing.

The introduction of the national shield game mechanic has made this possible now. Just have the defense system add some damage to the national shield total.

This could help drive demand for those raws, and help the economy a bit. A nation could purchase defense systems through citizens/orgs and donate them, the way cc/food is donated toward airstrikes. Just add the limit that a defense cannot be added if the shield is Q7(10billion) or higher.

They don't even need to make the systems as large as they used to be (requiring multiple work clicks). eRep could divide the system into whatever portion one work click should be able to produce. National bank orgs can make tons of little purchases, instead of one large purchase. Alternatively,  eRep could make the traditional large defense system, since employers can save up and assign work clicks later. Just make the "craft" button consume a couple hundred work clicks, if they are available. I don't know if you want to add the limitation that citizens/orgs can only buy systems from the markets of their citizenship, but that's something to consider.

P.S. It's time to finally delete hospitals and tickets out of the game, the way they removed houses.

Excellent suggestion.

Although for Hospitals I see a way of making them relevant again as well. Following the National Shield example, create National Health Care. Same premise you forwarded whereas it needs a combo of FRM/WRM. The NHC reduces the health consumption of a hit by a certain percentage up to a max per round/total max.

It's good that you are brainstorming, but I hope they don't do that. The problem is that it unfairly favors large countries who will be able to produce more, and keep all their citizens in the max bonus. Citizens in small nations will be at an even greater disadvantage in battle.

The defense system effect seems like it would be more balanced than that kind of mechanic. Of course, the larger countries will have a greater defense production. BUT, the shield is spread across their greater number of regions, meaning each region gets far less influence benefit. A defense system for smaller countries will have greater impact on a particular battle, because of the fewer regions controlled by that country.

The system would have the same impact for both as it would be implemented the same way... meaning the NHC would also see its effect divided by the number of regions of a sprawling empire.

That being said, yes, any system that favours an accrued resource mechanic will be advantageous to big/rich countries over everybody else.
