Dear eRepublik Team!

I want to list important feature that the old map contained and the new map does not contain:
-showing the resources on the map (whithout clicking on regions and remember what contains what)
-showing the country names and the region names on the map without moving the mouse onto them
-population map

useless features of the new map:
-city names (city names are only on the map. No other pages use them.)
-lots of clicks to get information

Sorry but the new map is like a blank map. We need lots of clicks to get information. If we wanted to plan campaigns we just see the older map regions and we saw the region names and resources.
With the new map I would do it by creating a screenshot and write over the regions their names and mark the resources.
There are important differences between the 2 maps:

uj_terkep_gyor_www.kepfeltoltes.hu_.png
278797808regi_terkep_www.kepfeltoltes.hu

And it would be great if we would see the neigbourhood, which regions are the neighbours of the others.
eGobba did it for years ago: http://www.egobba.de/ (when we move the cursor over a region, the other neighbours become brighter, so we see which regions can we attack)

(Sorry for my bad english.)

One of the major advantages of the old map was the ability to see the how the world looked like in the past.

1. The new map is like a vampire for the computer resources !

I play with an older PC (2800MHz dual, 2Gb RAM, 256Mb AGP) and the new map (flash) "eats" around 50% of memory (!) and it becoms very slow when I open the new map and the CPU and the RAM remains charged with the flash, after I leave the map too !

I have to restart (or "kill") my browser to clean the mem.

2. Moving the map is slow, not "flash" (quick). I must wait a lot of time to move between limits of continents

3. Part of buttons did not display they functions when mouse over. I must tray each of them if a'm looking for something.

p.s.

Sorry for my bad english

AFAIK it didn't load after the midnight (at least european time), because it considered the midnight to be the Day Change. You had to choose the previous day on the calendar for the map to work properly.

But we need to click sooooooo many to get some information. Without a click or mouseover action it does not show any information. It takes much more time (clicks) to get the resources of a country.
When the older map was introduced, I hated using it because of slowings, high memory usage, ... but later became more useful, showed lot of things. But the faster new shows nearly nothing when I open it. I need some mouse movements, reading, clicks and reading to get what the older showed at first time when I opened it.

The new map maybe looks nicer, but a lot of features of the old map are missing.

1 step forward and 2 steps back.

In addition to the features suggested by Kisborok, I would like to see the political map of past erepublik days,

as it was possible with the old map.

Also please put the map on a seperate side like the old one.

I don't want to load the map when im on the starting page and I don't want it.

Old map is simple to use and have infantile design — positively on the eyes.
New map looks more adult and difficult to use and have very dark tones — depressive effect on the eyes.
New map more have unnecessary functions for player. Yes, it`s only beta and probably admins have many idea to improvement and they are working on it. The big problem for map — she had small size, would be appropriate for adding function to map can be opened in a new window in full size like old. I do not know why they changed a colors of some countries :D

Not options - select data, but i thinks, they will add it in non beta.

I think it would be better if admins put everything in one window like this:

Yes, it`s take up space on a small map, but this couldwould put into new window in full size as i wrote above.

Even if all of my ideas about map will be very ridiculous and not worthy of attention — pay attention to design. It is important that these colors are negative, make the world a brighter, remove dark colors. possible copy of an old map of something. Make water on the map a not black.

I think you should add some features to the new map like a layer with resources, layer with alliances, layer with home regions for all countries, ability to see the how the world looked like in the past. And the new map have some bugs... Anyway I chose the new map, it looks better for me.

A few suggestions to improve the play experience when using the map on the landing page

1. Add a resource base layer. Resources are one of the most common reasons for war. Why make it so clicky and difficult to plan a strategy by looking at the map? The resources never change, so just make them a colour-coded base layer you can select. Make is a pattern of the resource icon and distinct colour. You only need 15.

2. Allow the map to infinitely scroll like a cylinder. The world is round. All movement on map edges is East-West. Its is very frustrating trying to use the map when looking at information from Australasia to the Americas.

3. How about a move-zone base layer, where zones are marked to help when estimating move costs? A1, B2, etc.

4. How about dotted lines in the oceans to indicate which territories border? If that is too messy, how about a circle containing the region initials on the coasts?

Most of the changes are relatively minor and will go a long way to improve the play experience.

I like the new map better. It functions well and is more appealing to the eyes. I can run the new map on my old computer perfectly fine.

OS: Gentoo

Processor: Intel Core Solo T1300 1.66 GHz (1660 MHz).

Ram: 2GB DDR3.

No graphics accelerator.

Browser: Firefox

What OS and browser are you using?

I agree with this comment.

I would also continue to see the map in previous days, to observe the loss or conquest of the territories.

I´d like any map, but a WORKING map. Old was fine, new sucks, but still is better than nothing.

EGOV had a great map, but it broke when the admins added the new countries, not so long ago.

Even though this thread is a bit older, I'd like to give you a small sneak peek at a coming tool of my eRepublik community website: http://www.erepublik.../tools/worldmap

Right now this map just displays all regions of erepublik and marks their neighbours (neighbours regarding to the official ingame data). In the following days I'm going to add several features like countryinformation, active battles, ressources, a "region history" etc. - maybe it is a bit helpful for you :)

Update #1 (24.07.2015)

Right now, the map includes the following features:

  • Displaying all regions of eRepublik
  • Displaying their neighbours (regarding to the official ingame data) at mouseover
  • Basic information about the clicked region (official owner, current owner, ressource, population, possible bonus loss if the current owner looses this region)
  • Displaying the resource of the region if you zoom in
  • Filter for ressources and its industry (e.g. oil, grain, saltpeter but also weapons, houses, food)
  • Filter for the current population
  • Filter for active battles

Should be enough for the following days :)

Regards

rg
