Copied my comment from the article:
The problem is that the game is focused on community, and has been for a long time. The admins have slowly weakened all of the modules, to give focus to the military module. The weakened modules mean that the community has less things to do and we have to rely on our own creativity to keep people here (competitions, trolling, random articles, plug dj). The military module has also lost all strategy so that the admins can make more money. Of all the games people can play on the internet there is no reason for a new player to stay on eRepublik unless they get involved in the community, which doesn't happen so often. We are also seeing players leave, which causes more players to leave. Therefore this trend we have seen over the past month or two of roughly 1000 players decrease by day (by eRepubliks count) is just going to get worse. At this rate there will be no eRepublik by the end of the year.
The obvious solution is to bring back strategy to the military module first, which is going to cost the admins financially as it means less need to buy gold. Whether they will do it or not is a mystery to us players, but the game will die without it. A revival of strategy would bring back aspects of the political module, enough to probably get more players interested in it again. The political module would need more work but it is a start. It would also help with the media. After this they can get to work on the economy, but I don't think anyone knows how to fix that.

wow, an interesting article about a real problem...
erepublik labs should make quickly some new events, some new areas to explore in the game (space colonies? small, new/old countries? (such as wallachia and moravia)...
even medievalist or unique minuscule states should be added to the game...)
there are many good ideas, and the admins/leaders of erepublik should listen.
its never too late!
this is a good game, and we can save it!
plus, its like a mini-facebook for friends and colleagues....
but seriously, adding space collonies and space exploration for strong nations would be cool. even a choice to use ''cheap'' space missions would be neat.
and conquering lands on other planets, finding rare minerals, etc etc...

I fear you'll be ignored, too.

This was my suggestion to heal the economy and give the game some competition back.
https://forum.erepub...economy-module/
Nothing like that happened so far the opposite it was made even worse.

Yeah, I think we've established by now that the admins don't actually care about keeping this game going, only making money from it.
Sell game to google!
Even Google wouldn't buy this!

Last time they listened the game turned into what you see today... Listening to the players usually resulted in a faster decay of the game we knew +-5 years ago.
... are you all sure you want to make this suggestion again???

I have to agree with tommot on this. How much I would like to see some strategic changes to the military module to level out the playing field a bit and give strategy at least a chance against Mastercard/masses I think any change will further alienate players even more.
eRepublik know their player base better then the players themselves, a total revamp might spell disaster whilst the current approach seems to be generating enough income now and in the future to keep it that way.

Yes, as a few others have been saying, erepublik knows it's players well. It's their job. Real people depend on this game for food and shelter. So, it isn't like they don't know there is a problem
my guess is that the problem lies with the format of the game, somehow this style of game is unsuited for the new trends. You all might have noticed that the new/latest games all have
> Snazzy graphics
> Sexy avatars
> LOTS LOTS LOTS fighting
in light of that, it is unsurprising they are focused on the military module. I came to this game to fight, 99% of all players joined to fight. Everything else is an after thought. Aand, what of the graphics part? - erepublik's format is crude imagery, no special effects, not many explosions, just some numbers and lots of mathematics. People of this time and age don't like that.

They've focused on the military module because it is the way they make all of their money, people buy gold which goes to training grounds, companies and energy bars so they can fight better. They've made the game more about military. There used to be a lot more things political but they have been slowly removed so political players have lost interest. I don't think most of the older players came to fight.
I came as I was looking for an economical game, I stayed for the politics. They killed politics and I'm only here for the community now. A lot of people will stay the same.

I like the post, and I like too see what is going on,
but eRepublik will never just flat out die, There are fans who would not allow that too happen,
but the community will most likely shrink because the game has changed so much.
I have been playing for about a little over 3 years ago, when I first joined, I felt like it was a much more active game, much more going on.
Today, I really only log in to do my basic needs and little things here and there, with the occasional purchase of a pack,
but in no way do I see what this game was once before, I have friends who have played this game since launch almost who have dropped from playing it, just because the lost of interest and them claiming ( not my words theirs ),
It has been to focused around purchasing "gold".
Unless there is some changes to revamp what needs to be changed, the game will shrink, and it will be like it was when it first launched. A small hidden gem.
I hope to not see that happen, but then again, we have too see!
