Greetings, my fellow citizens and those Erepublik crew members who end up reading this!

I've been playing Erepublik since 2008 and now that the game celebrates its 8th anniversary I decided to write down my own thoughts considering the most interesting aspect of this game: the Political module.

I already sended some feedback to admins considering the same subject. Although the Political module is for many (if not for most) players the most interesting part of this game there has not been any significant progress in it. The politics offer so much more meaning to fighting on the battlefield but now that the politics have become pretty meaningless many wars have also lost their meaning. I'd like to point out to you the fact, that the political module has been ignored for a long time.

The change in elections which made us move from voting individuals to voting political parties has a key role in this. Individual players lost their interest to campaign because it didn't matter so much now that people would vote only the party. Atleast in eFinland, where I've spent most of my eLife, the political threatre is dead - the only time someone dares to mention politics is during the presidential elections but while most of the people are inactive and doesn't care about active discussion in public those elections are more about finding someone active enough to handle the job. Dictatorship also has its part in this and while most countries have their own dictator for securing their country from PTO's there is no point in campaigning for presidency while the president doesn't really have any power.

I've loved the political aspect of this game and what I hope is that the Erepublik crew would once again consentrate their attention to this part of the game. As far as I understand it, the War module works pretty well and now we should find other ways to develope this game. This is why I propose that we would start from taking a step back to times when we voted individual players instead of political parties. I don't think that fixes everything but we have many good years in the past as a proof for its working. I believe that it would "force" individual players to do more for the seat in congress and this might activate media and bring more meaning to the congressional elections itself.

I believe that there is so much we can do if we wish to develope the political module and I'd like to hear my fellow citizens thoughts about this. My point here is not to blame admins for a poor update on game, because we can never be truly sure how these changes affect the game. But now that we've seen how voting arties instead of individual candidates affects the politics I believe is our change to make a difference and start to consider other options and updates for the system.

Best regards:

Couldn't really agree more. Erius here elaborated the matter way better than I would have done.

The political module right now is a bit anemic, contributing factors are surely indeed the dictatorship module with relatively easy and cheap military take-overs, as well as the shift from voting individuals to voting party-organized candidate lists. Earlier system provided incentive for citizens to campaign and advertise himself - in short to participate in political discussions in media and elsewhere. Only reverting back to voting individuals in stead of voting parties could help the idleness significally, as Erius superiorly presented.

Do not take this either as an attack on the game developers. It's purpose is to work as a constructive criticism.

I agree with Erius about the need to put more tought on the political module. Maybe some in-game reason could be developed for the holders of curent political titles in game (Prime ministeri, Minister of Defence, etc.).

Could not agree more!

This would make the news paper publication so much more active with campaign numbers. Might even inspire some to write more good articles to make their name out here on what ever they like to write about.

Political aspect would be so much interesting when you really have to make an effort to get elected and makes the internal relations in the game so much more important.

Diplomacy and contacts would make the community all over eRebublic more active and that activity aspect is the worst problem right now.

The old Congres election system was perfect - interesting, exciting and fun, I still do't know why it was replaced by the current bulshit

Changing the voting system to the single transferable vote in multi member constituencies would solve this problem!

I don't know... I find that the political module is incredibly hard to use if you are new to eRepublik. And the eReps should take a look into this article and at least let us know that they exist.

May as well rename it from "suggestions" to "pipedreams" for all the attention admins pay, even most comments on Alexis' recent "I'm going to listen" article weren't replied to, how hard would 200 public replies have been? especially as many addressed the same problems.

There should also be preferential voting, especially in Presidential elections. If your first preference is finishes last then your second preference comes into play. This way there isn't vote splitting and presidents can't get elected on less than 50% of the vote.

Before going back to individual regions having regional congressmen we'd need to have regional defences and populations which isn't suited to the game as it is. There are ways to fix that, with systems such as logarithmic defences - ie 10 people in a region gives a 5% bonus, 100 gives 10%, 10000 gives 15%, etc - so a sparse population is a bonus not a disadvantage.

I would like to see a number of different voting systems where governments can choose a system that balances ATO ops and democracy, that'd give internal politics a new customisation tool which I think would help make it more interesting.

I am still wondering why they killed the most interesting module  - the congress elections used to be a great fun. I can understand the changes in the military and the pseudoeconomic modues  -they target gaining more $$$, but the destruction of the political module was only a  stupidity. It did not bring money, it only led to the permanent logout of thousands who enjoyed the old module.

Because they don't care if the game dies. The political module is the one which requires admins and moderators to put the most attention into the game, if they destroy that then they can focus on their new mobile apps which is the way forward.
