Disclaimer

The eRepublik Team is happy to introduce its latest project, meant to help the community from within: The Plato Foundation.

Please keep in mind that the following version of the rules and mechanics is not definitive - this project still needs user feedback, so don’t be surprised if some of the details will change in the future. The first month will be a test round, which will help figure out last details and deal with possible concerns. At the same time, any suggestions you might have are welcome.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on this! Feel free to let us know in the comments below.

The Plato Foundation

Plato always had a heart for the community. He loves to see Citizens helping each other and coming together for the good of the community. Whether it’s the tools that make everyone’s eLife easier, good articles that inspire or baby booms, he wants to reward it, which is why he came up with the idea of a Foundation - Plato’s Foundation!

Its purpose

Plato’s fortune is legendary - some even say it’s endless! This project gets finances from Plato and distributes them to players who stand out in helping the eRepublik community. The Plato Foundation can provide Gold for individual players, or fund programs meant to help larger numbers of players. Anything to help the community!

Representatives:

Given that this is a project of the community for the community, top players and leaders of their eCountries will be asked to join Plato in his efforts.

The Board of trustees is formed out of:

2 Community Officers

3 eRepublik Volunteer Moderators

4 independent high profile players (proposed and voted by the members of the board)

The members will be changed monthly.

The Board of trustees discusses the proposed projects in the private Discord channel [will be set soon].

Steps for submitting a project:

Come up with an idea!

Are you trying to help your community grow? Do you want to support new players? Are you aware of a need that needs to be met? Do you think that a player needs to be rewarded for his activity within/for the community? We’re here to help!

Write your presentation…

Under the form of an article. Describe your project clearly, giving details about how it will work, its goals and the impact it should have on the eRepublik community. We’d also love to hear about similar projects from the past and effect they had. Last, but not least, let us know about your personal contribution to the project, whether it’s  time or resources - all help is welcomed! Remember that transparency is key here so try to be as clear as possible when it comes to these details.

The article MUST be written in English. You can, if you want to, translate it in one or more languages if you think it is necessary, but make sure the English version is written clearly.

Get the community on board!

Once you have published your article, you should try to make it popular - shout it and get the community to vote and comment on it. We want to hear the opinions of other Citizens as well.

Submit it

Once you are happy with your project and the community’s feedback, submit it officially via the Discord channel of the Plato Foundation. You can also propose projects that aren’t yours but you consider as a good cause for the Plato Foundation. Congratulations! The following days you should be available to answer any other questions the Board might have and wait for the list of projects that have been chosen.

Timeline:

Grants and sponsorships will be given weekly. Throughout the week, players can submit projects which will be analyzed by the board. The voting takes place on Monday and the winning projects of the week will be announced through an article which will be posted each week on Tuesday.

Types of Sponsorship:

One time sponsorships

Are contributing with resources to one time events as contests, programs aimed at growing eRepublik (programs aimed at new users, players behind baby booms), outstanding articles etc.

Sponsorships reward individual projects. The Gold Reward of maximum 500 Gold is given all at once. However, a Citizen can apply/be proposed again if they come up with a new project.

Grants

Rewarding continuous work on projects that adhere to the foundation mission. Those can include developers of external tools that significantly benefit the community, volunteers in the team with outstanding performance, journalists that work on a series of relevant and high quality articles (i.e. a world status update).

Grants offer a maximum of 1000 Gold over a period of one month. The Gold will be transferred to the project leader to be shared according to the rules proposed. At the end of each week, he must post a follow-up article, giving details about how the Gold has been used, before the next deposit is made. If the resources haven’t been used as promised, the board can choose to stop the funding. At the end of the month, the project can be proposed again for a Grant.

Budget

As a starting point Plato's Foundation has a monthly budget of 6000 Gold, which will be used depending on the number and quality of the projects proposed. However, depending on the quality of the projects received and quantity, Plato might dig deeper in his gold bag at the next iterations.  The Gold will be used depending on the number and quality of the projects proposed. If it hasn’t been used, the weekly budget of 1500 Gold will be reported to the following week, but it cannot be reported from one month to another.

How the projects are chosen:

All submitted projects are discussed with the board. If the members vote to support the project, a trustee is appointed. At the same time, a budget is established for the project. The board also establishes whether the project qualifies as a one time sponsorship or a grant (for example, a player might apply for a grant, but a one time sponsorship could be more fitted for him).

Great initiative! Maybe providing a template for a project submission would allow players to have a better understanding as to what qualifies as such.

To be serious, does the player care about the players? More than your own pocket? ...
This was the reason he destroyed the divisions? Collect more money from players. As many tickets are sent and disregarded, I find it hard to believe that Plato is interested in our opinion.

I will give my help for any project that really helps the community and has some positive effect on it, especially on the new players, so I am happy about this decision.

What anyway I would suggest to take in consideration too, is to find ways to allow all the new players to feel "important" despite of their lack of stats, and to complete the modules that are developed "half-way".
The first thing to improve, to make an efficient marketing plan, is the product itself.

Anyway congratz Plato for this idea.

I think it is a good idea and will certainly bring communities back together.

As a long time fadvocate for a better rewarded media system I am all in  :)

I have two suggestions:

Anti cheating software. One of the biggest reasons this game went to seed is the fact Plato would do nothing about the cheating and the game went from 40K+ American citizens to 1600 citizens today.

nProtect GameGuard

PunkBuster

BABY BOOM...Plato needs to advertise this game through every major outlet and until eRepublik gets NEW citizens any program to help the community is going to fail.

Also, finishing the 'Residence Module' would be a good start....
