Messi has only produced the goods when surrounded by some of the best players of this generation at Barca, he's done next to nothing for Argentina relative to the hype surrounding him, which considering he's talked up in the same bracket as Maradona, Zidane etc. just isn't good enough. He's still a great player but really needs to step up on the International stage.
Ronaldo has done the business in every team he's ever played in, including an average Portugal side.
So, Ronaldo.
I'm surprised the forum was up all of 10 hours before this question came up tbh : p

are you kidding me ?
plz make serious polls next time.
CR7 its a very good player, but ... well you know ... we are talking about Messi.

1 word... CR7
Messi can score 300 in 1 season and I will still think that, even if CR left United, which I'm a fan of

Messi can score only when play with his La Masia friend.
With Argentina? His form is very bad. No trophy from his first debut (Olympic medal is not trophy)
Ronaldo can lead Portugal (not a good team at first), and do well with every team he play (MU, Real Madrid).
Vote for Ronaldo ofc

almost 1/2 from his form in Argentina comparing in Barcelona
Who is his teammate?
- Kun Aguero (£38 million)
- Higuain (£34.5 million)
- Angel Di Maria (£29 million) Source
- Javier Mascherano (£17.6 million) Source
- Lavezzi (£22.8 million) Source
- Carlos Tevez (£47 million) / Transfer from Manchester United to Manchester City
- Pastore (€39.8 million)

now name who is his teammate, that are big star in his team?
Helder Postiga? Meireles? Pepe? lol
His stat in Real is not too far from Messi in La Liga. Oh come on! La Liga is the League when you can score hattrick every week. Compare that than BPL.
But, actually, he can become top scorer in BPL.
My argument is valid!

Ronaldo one of the most complete players there have been.
Messi, amazing at what he does in his style.
I think somehow they're both number 1 and nobody is at that level(If you don't count me, ofc!), at least at the moment.

Let's compare the goals scored in official tournaments.
Lionel Messi:
2006 World Cup = 1 goal
2007 Copa America = 2 goals
2010 World Cup = 0 goals
2011 Copa America = 0 goals
Total 3 goals
Cristiano Ronaldo:
2004 Euro = 2 goals
2006 World Cup = 1 goal
2008 Euro = 1 goal
2010 World Cup = 1 goal
2012 Euro = 3 goals
Total 8 goals
Messi hasn't scored a goal in an official international tournament since 2007. Let's compare the goals scored in qualifying rounds for the tournaments.
Lionel Messi:
WC Qualifier = 12 goals
Total 12 goals
Cristiano Ronaldo:
WC Qualifier = 7 goals
Euro Qualifier = 11 goals
Total 18 goals
So to sum it up:
Lionel Messi:
15 out of 35 goals are official goals, which is 43%
Cristiano Ronaldo
26 out of 39 goals are official goals, which is 67%

Agree with Magnanimous above. The stats count for very little because of the disparity of quality in South America, after Brazil, Arg, Colombia and sometimes Uruguay the quality drops away drastically. Meaning Argentina play against much poorer opposition than Portugal in the qualifying rounds to big tournaments, so if the stats favour Messi in this regard I'm sure a lot of it has to do with Messi getting to lineup against El Salvador or whoever whilst for Ronaldo the opposition is generally of a much higher grade.
