Can it be set at a later time? Actually, what are all the implications?

that part I got, but is it like a permanent feature?

if I don't set a residency now, will I not be able to ever buy houses? or for that matter set a residency?

To add to that, you can activate houses for months or years before the deadline, it's just after the deadline you won't be able to activate any new houses until you have established a residence. Houses already activate will still work.

thank you! this is what I wanted to know

so I could, for example, wait another year until I decide on a residence (as in I won't be forced to have one by the 1st)

gucio what would be point of activating houses for years beforehand. as far as i know this is why they are nomads.  they can turn houses on and off.  if they activate houses beforehand your answer should be . at that point joining an residence would be more beneficial to the player.

As far as I'm aware the deadline was not forcing everyone to a residence, but is restricting activating new hourses. Therefore you could have activated a years worth of houses and still not be a resident. I guess the advantage could be seen as your bonus does not expire/you do not need to travel back to the residence.
