As it says in the title, it would be good to separate a players land and the player, that is create a 'newspaper' or 'party' section called 'business' where all the players companies are held. Why? This would allow significantly more further customisation of the mechanism. For example on top of this you could have joint ownership of businesses, you could sell business stocks/shares, you could have brand identity and all the interactions that accompany that, you could have massive multinational businesses that vie for market control. Running companies is boring as it stands but running a business could be just as fulfilling.
